The Club 420 is the premier double-handed boat in North America for youth sailors. With almost 6,000 boats in North America and strict one-design principles the class offers tight racing and camaraderie between its sailors. The boat rewards communication and is a great trainer for sailors looking to develop their skills with spinnakers and trapezes for those planning to sail in Olympic classes.
This summer, the Northeastern United States is hosting a circuit of Club 420 events all along shores of New England. In particular, a must event is the Club 420 U.S. National Championship, which is to be sailed in the famous waters of Narragansett Bay, in Jamestown, Rhode Island where many previous America’s Cup sailors have also sailed. US Club 420 class president, Robert Salk, says he expects the 420 Class to host over 180 youths this year. Most registered sailors will obviously come from, the US, the Caribbean, but he expects some of the entrants to come as far as from Europe. The list of 420 registrants, will definitely offer those looking for the challenge, very tough competition, and most definitely a true champion will be crowned.
Other Club 420 challenging championships scheduled for this 2009 summer include, the famous, Marblehead Jr. Race Week and the annual Buzzards Bay Regatta, both which are to be held in Massachusetts.
